When the lady Nadine Kentucky was 85 years old, she was asked what she would do if she had her to live over again.
“I’d make more mistakes next without worry too much,” she said. “I’d relax. I would limber up. I would take fewer things seriously. I would take more rivers. I would eat more ice cream and less beans. I would perhaps have more actual troubles, but I’d have fewer imaginary ones.
“You see, I’m one of those people who live sensibly and sanely hour after hour, day after day. Oh, if I had to do it over again, I’d have more of them. In fact, I’d try to have nothing else. If I had to do it over again, I would travel happier than I have.”
“If I had my life to live over, I would start barefoot earlier in the spring and stay that way later in the fall. I would go to more dances. I would ride more house and I would pick more daisies.”
There is a temple at the foot of Nanshan, and an ancient banyan is in front of it.
One morning,a young monk gets up to clean up the courtyard and sees the fallen leaves from the ancient banyan are everywhere,he can't help worrying and look at the tree to sigh.
For his sorrow is on the toppest,he throws down the broom and rushes to his master's room ,then he knocks on the door to plea for interview.
His master hears it and opens the door, when he sees the disciple's worried look,he thinks something takes place,so he hurries to ask him:“ My disciple, what does you worry about so much in the early morning? ”
The young disciple is full of doubt and tells him:“Master, you persuades us to be diligent to cultivate our moral character and grasp the truth day and night, but, even I learn them well ,it is hard to avoid to die.Till that ,so-called me, so-called Dao, aren't they just like the defoliation in autumn or the deadwood in winter? and they will be buried by a heap of loess?”
After hearing it ,the old monk points at the ancient banyan and says to the young monk:“ My disciple ,you don't need to worry about this.In fact, the defoliation in autumn and the deadwood in winter will climb back to the trees silently and become the flowers in spring and grow up into the leaves in suer at the time of autumnal winds is blowing strongliest and the snow falls down most heavily.”
“Why don't I see it?”
“It is the reason that there isn't any view in your heart, so you can't see the bloom .”
Facing the withering defoliations and imaging they will be in bud,it needs to have an immortal of spring heart, an optimism of heart.
There are always some miseries you will meet in your whole and strike you when you are unprepared, but we don't need to worry day after day for the arrival of this day, and feel sorry to yourself.
Treating the life with the attitude of the optimism, it can not only dissolve the agony and misfortune , but also bring a kind of pleased mood to you everyday and make your life bright and flourishing .
As long as the view is in the heart, aren't the paths full of fragrance of flowers everywhere?
I do not know who wrote those words, but I have always liked themas a reminder that the future can be anything we want to makeit.
We can take the mysterious, hazy future and carve out of itanything that we can imagine, just like a sculptor carves a statuefrom a shapeless stone.
We are all in the position of the farmer. If we plant a goodseed, we reap a good harvest. If our seed is poor and full ofweeds, we reap a useless crop. If we plant nothing at all, weharvest nothing at all.
I want the future to be better than the past. I don’t want itcontaminated by the mistakes and errors with which history isfilled. We should all be concerned about the future because that iswhere we will spend the reminder of our lives.
The past is gone and static. Nothing we can do will change it.The future is before us and dynamic. Everything we do will effectit.
Each day will brings with it new frontiers, in our homes and inour businesses, if we will only recognize them. We are just at thebeginning of the progress in every field of human endeavor.
I have a few candles stored in a drawer in my dining room. They’re meant for romantic dinners and special occasions, but sincethe arrival of our three children they have lain unnoticed amongthe napkins and other things. They are waiting to be taken out andlit to share their glow with anyone who will take the time to baskin their brilliance.
Are not our souls like those candles, patiently waiting forsomeone to come and let us be ourselves? We are all waiting for ourown moments to shine; we each have a special light, unmatched byany other.
Candles are made up of wax and a wick; we have bodies, but ouressence lies in our minds and souls. Candles are unique in theircolors, shapes and designs. Our life histories and experiences arethe backdrops of who we are, but our minds are like candle wicks, and make our passions flame. Unlike the candles in my drawer, whoget used or not used depending on my whims, we control our ownthoughts, and how brightly we will burn or dimly we will shine.
Is your soul candle dimmed by circumstance or lack of passion anddirection? Is it hidden in a drawer of stress, worry or resentment?Make a choice to let yourself shine the way you were meant toshine.
The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings, but shorter tempers; wider freeways, but narrower viewpoints; we spend more, but have less; we buy more but enjoy less.
We have bigger houses and smaller families; more conveniences, but less time; we have more degrees, but less sense; more knowledge, but less judgment; more experts, but more problems; more medicine, but less wellness.
We drink too much, spend too recklessly, laugh too little, drive too fast, get too angry too quickly, stay up too late, get up too tired, read too little, watch TV too much, and pray too seldom.
We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often. We’ve learned how to make a living, but not a life; we’ve added years to life, not life to years.
We’ve been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet the new neighbor. We’ve conquered outer space, but not inner space; we’ve done larger things, but not better things.
We’ve cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul; we’ve split the atom, but not our prejudice. We write more, but learn less; we plan more, but accomplish less.
We’ve learned to rush, but not to wait; we have higher incomes, but, lower morals.
We build more computers to hold more information to produce more copies than ever, but have less communication; we’ve become long on quantity, but short on quality.

These are the days of two incomes, but more divorce; of fancier houses, but more broken homes.
These are the days of quick trips, disposable diapers, throw away morality, one night stands, overweight bodies, and pills that do everything from cheer, to quiet, to kill. Where are we heading...?
If we die tomorrow, the company that we are working for could easily replace us in a matter of days. But the family we left behind will feel the loss for the rest of their lives.
And come to think of it, we pour ourselves more into work than to our family an unwise investment indeed.
So what is the morale of the story?
Don’t work too hard... and you know what’s the full word of family?
FAMILY = (F)ATHER (A)ND (M)OTHER, (I) (L)OVE (Y)OU.
There was a rich merchant who had 4 wives. He d the 4th wife the most and adorned her with rich robes and treated her to delicacies. He took great care of her and gave her nothing but the best.
He also loved the 3rd wife very much. He’s very proud of her and always wanted to show off her to his friends. However, the merchant is always in great fear that she might run away with some other men.
He too, loved his 2nd wife. She is a very considerate person, always patient and in fact is the merchant’s confidante. Whenever the merchant faced some problems, he always turned to his 2nd wife and she would always help him out and tide him through difficult s.
Now, the merchant’s 1st wife is a very loyal partner and has made great contributions in maintaining his wealth and business as well as taking care of the household. However, the merchant did not love the first wife and although she loved him deeply, he hardly took notice of her.
One day, the merchant fell ill. Before long, he knew that he was going to die soon. He thought of his luxurious and told himself, “Now I have 4 wives with me. But when I die, I’ll be alone. How lonely I’ll be!”
Thus, he asked the 4th wife, “I loved you most, and owed you with the finest clothing and showered great care over you. Now that I’m dying, will you follow me and keep me company?” “No way!” replied the 4th wife and she walked away without another word.
The answer cut like a sharp knife right into the merchant’s heart. The sad merchant then asked the 3rd wife, “I have loved you so much for all my life. Now that I’m dying, will you follow me and keep me company?” “No!” replied the 3rd wife. “Life is so good over here! I’m going to remarry when you die!” The merchant’s heart sank and turned cold.
He then asked the 2nd wife, “I always turned to you for help and you’ve always helped me out. Now I need your help again. When I die, will you follow me and keep me company?” “I’m sorry, I can’t help you out this time!” replied the 2nd wife. “At the very most, I can only send you to your grave.” The answer came like a bolt of thunder and the merchant was devastated.
Then a voice called out: “I’ll leave with you. I’ll follow you no matter where you go.” The merchant looked up and there was his first wife. She was so skinny, almost like she suffered from malnutrition. Greatly grieved, the merchant said, “I should have taken much better care of you while I could have!”
Actually, we all have 4 wives in our lives
The 4th wife is our body. No matter how much time and effort we lavish in making it look good, it’ll leave us when we die.
Our 3rd wife is our possessions, status and wealth. When we die, they all go to others.
The 2nd wife is our family and friends. No matter how close they had been there for us when we’re alive, the furthest they can stay by us is up to the grave.
The 1st wife is in fact our soul, often neglected in our pursuit of material, wealth and sensual pleasure.
Guess what? It is actually the only thing that follows us wherever we go. Perhaps it’s a good idea to cultivate and strengthen it now rather than to wait until we’re on our deathbed to lament.

A man, a woman and a child are telling the tree their troubles.
“How can I do what you say,” asked the child, “and still be me?”
“Look at me,” said the tree. “I bend in the wind, droop in the rain, yet I always remain myself, a tree.”
The man said. “I can’t change.”
“Look at me,” said the tree, “I change every season from green to brown to green again, from bud to flower to fallen leaf. Yet I always remain myself, a tree.”
“I can’t love any more,” said the woman, “With my love, I have given away all that I am.”
“Look at me,” said the tree. “There are robins in my branches, owls in my trunk, moss and lady bugs living on my bark. They may take what I have, but not what I am.”
Whether we know it or not, we are like the tree. Only our pride hangs on to a false sense of self, wanting to keep everything, refusing to follow advice or spiritual direction.
What we do doesn’t matter; how we do it is what counts. Change and growth is as natural as the sun coming up every morning and the setting of it every night. Go with what is inside you and listen to what your heart tells you. Why not even if just for today, reach out once more to a place that exists outside yourself without or from others…just once more.
