这里面讲的故事发生在20xx年。当时为了节约地球能源，现实生活中就把房子建的非常简朴，就是一些集装箱堆在一起。而在虚拟世界中你只要带上相应的设备，就可以去攀爬珠穆朗玛峰，去和人们枪战，去大海里潜水，或者去一些你想象不到的地方。这个叫绿洲游戏的创作者、管理者已经去世了。他留下了三个关卡，如果可以破解，那就可以成为绿洲的股东还有管理绿洲的权利。
第一关是赛车，赛车中间会有什么铁锤呀，飞机呀，金刚啊，哥斯拉等等来影响。而我们的主人公在不断尝试，思考，并在去图书馆阅读1000次之后发现了一个更好的解决方法。他就是开倒车，他倒下去有一个隧道一直通向终点。第一关，他在比赛开始前把得到钥匙的秘密通道告诉了他的朋友们。朋友们也都顺利闯关拿到了钥匙。
第二关，男主人公和朋友们破解了第一关给的线索，发现是跟绿洲创作者喜欢的一个女孩有关的。他们一起去闯关，唯一一关是在电影院里面闯关，他们在电影角色里找到了第二把钥匙。接着他们破解了第二关给出的线索，得知要破解第三关是在一个叫末日世界的地方打游戏。
但这就在这时，另一个势力正在监视着他们。那个势力简称101。男主人公的搭档女主人公被101抓走了，可是女主人公并未放弃解救自己，通过与朋友们的协作，不但逃脱了系统控制，还在101总部里巧妙的破解了游戏里刚启动的结界防护罩。男主人公与朋友们使出浑身装备，终于战胜了101的老板，一个邪恶的角色，获得了第三关的胜利，并最终凑齐三把钥匙，取得了绿洲游戏的实际控制权。在现实中101的邪恶老板也受到了惩罚。
这部电影想要警示我们的是，科技本身是不分好坏的，如果科技进步被掌握在充满邪恶思想的人手上，科技不但不会让生活更美好，反而会使人类进入灾难。另外，无论在现实生活中还是在游戏中，团结一心，努力争取总归是可以战胜邪恶的。
