一、向幼儿展示成熟的语言
听是学习一种语言基础的基础
倾听优美的英文儿歌、民歌,感受其美妙,区分其与中文的差异。在教学活动中,我发觉让小朋友聆听英国一些原版的歌曲、律诗、韵文,可以让小朋友在最原始的模仿状态下得到纯正的发音储存。
不急于说,听准确后再慢慢模仿
幼儿学习语言,一个很重要的环节是重复。我曾经播放《狮子王》录音磁带的片断约五分钟给中班小朋友听全英文磁带,听过遍后,小朋友已经可以对每句话的后面几个字进行模仿期间我并未做过中文解释。第二天我又播放同一段录音给他们听,他们可以在紧急情况来临之前便已经发出警报;第三天,我再一次播放同一段录音时,小朋友感觉就像是在听中文故事一样,能够自然地蹦出几个关键词。
反复听,强化印象幼儿的记忆瞬间性较强,反复强化后,可以使瞬间的印象很长久地刻在记忆深处。这也是为什么小时候背颂的古诗成年后也不会忘记的原因。每次上课时,需要把前面学过的内容听一遍,温故而知新。

新世纪新疆双语教学的变化主要表现在少数民族群众对双语教学的认识、党和政府的重视程度、师资水平、双语教学研究与理论的水平、教材建设工作、教学模式以及汉语学习的环境等七大方面。
学汉语、懂汉语光荣,当一个双语人光荣的思想已深入人心。在市场经济环境中,少数民族群众进一步认识到掌握双语是当今各国在语言选择和使用上的大趋势,是少数民族发展经济、科技、文化、教育的必由之路。
1981年,新疆维吾尔自治区教育厅规定从小学四年级起开设汉语课,直到高中毕业。自此,民族小学真正开始开设汉语课。
一、“双语”教学的推进
新疆维吾尔自治区的“双语”教学是指少数民族学校使用少数民族语言和汉语言组织教学的一种教学形式。由于经济发展、教育基础和语言环境的差异,决定了新疆“双语”教学模式的多样化。主要有以下三种类型:一是母语授课、加授汉语的教学模式;二是汉语授课、加授母语的教学模式;三是部分课程使用母语授课、部分课程使用汉语授课,其中以少数民族中小学数、理、化等课程使用汉语授课,其它课程使用母语授课的教学模式居多。
20xx年,自治区党委、人民政府在总结“双语”教学工作经验的基础上颁布了《关于大力推进“双语”教学工作的决定》,提出目标,即在巩固和提高母语教学质量的同时,以提高汉语教学质量为重点,按照因地制宜、分类指导、分区规划、分步实施的原则,逐步推进双语教学工作,不断扩大“双语”教学的范围和规模,提高少数民族教育教学质量。使少数民族语言授课的中小学,其“双语”教学模式,由现阶段的以理科授课为主的部分课程用汉语授课,或除母语文之外的其它课程用汉语授课的模式,最终过渡到全部课程用汉语授课的模式,同时加授母语文的模式,使少数民族学生高中毕业达到“民汉兼通”的目标,为今后的学习、工作和生活奠定坚实的基础。
二、学习掌握母语的关系
在“双语”教学中汉语教学是薄弱环节,所以在当前把汉语教学作为重点,但并不意味着放弃母语教学,而强调的是在巩固和提高母语教学质量的同时学习汉语,这也决定了“双语”教学的性质。另外,“双语”教学的目标是培养“民汉兼通”的人才,这就要求少数民族学生必须学好母语。因此,推进“双语”教学不是不要母语,而是要求在学好母语的基础上掌握汉语。
三、推进“双语”教学要“从小抓起、从教师抓起”
在汉语教学中,应当重视语音教学。汉语和少数民族语言的语音有相似之处,也有许多不同。汉语的声韵调,尤其声调,是少数民族学生学习的难点。长期以来,少数民族中小学、大学汉语教学都不够重视汉语的语音教学,致使很多少数民族学生即便掌握了汉语的字词、语法规则,可以进行交际交流,但因语音掌握得不好,过不了听说关。语音教学比较乏味,也很困难,不太好讲解,学生因受母语的影响,掌握起来很吃力。这是很多汉语教师不注重语音教学的一个原因。汉语教学自小抓起,自语音教学抓起,还是很重要的 推进“双语”教学工作是一个系统工程,既要充分认识推进“双语”教学的长期性、艰巨性和复杂性,树立“咬定青山不放松”的精神;又要善于突出重点,抓住根本,寻求新的突破。
总结近年来各地推进“双语”教学工作的经验,我们越来越清晰地认识到,“双语”教学工作必须“从小抓起”,从语言学习的黄金时期抓起。不少地方的经验证明,发展学前教育对巩固提高“普九”水平,发展各类教育,构筑终身教育体系,具有基础性、全局性和先导性的作用。60年代以来,脑科学、心理学、教育学、社会学等方面众多的研究成果揭示了早期教育在人一生发展中的重要作用,以及它所产生的强大的经济和社会效益。科学的早期教育不仅有利于开发婴幼儿的学习潜能,而且能促进处境不利的幼儿较好地适应小学以后的学习,使辍学率下降,就业率提高,有利于社会消除贫困。
通过学前教育激发儿童巨大的学习潜能,特别是学好汉语,将极大地提高我区教育的水平和国民整体素质,对自治区经济和社会的持续、健康发展具有重要的战略意义。同样,“双语”教师是推进“双语”教学的中坚力量,具有特殊重要的地位和作用,没有高素质的“双语”教师队伍,就不可能有高水平的“双语”教学,因此,深入解决好“双语”师资问题,已成为我区教育工作的中心任务。 “双语”教学工作是一项长期工作,不能一蹴而就,既要增强推进“双语”教学工作的紧迫感、责任感,加大推进力度;又要分类指导,循序渐进。
制定中小学“双语”教学的配套措施,既要考虑不同学段、不同学科之间的相互协调,又要兼顾中心城市、县(镇)和乡村学校的均衡发展,同时,对“双语”班的课程设置、教学内容、评价体系、学段衔接、升学政策等事关广大人民群众切身利益的问题,认真研究,仔细论证,及时制定切实可行的措施和办法,引导“双语”教学改革向纵深发展。 消极等待和急于求成,只能阻碍“双语”教学的发展进程,影响和耽误一代人甚至几代人的健康成长。我们将坚决贯彻落实自治区的总体部署,从学前教育阶段抓起,把“双语”教学延伸到各个学段;通过沟通,教师拉近了距离,提高了教学水平;学生通过交流,促进了文化、心理和情感融合广泛的汉语授课将根据学生和教师的情况在其他学科陆续展开。
四、新疆推行“双语”教学的发展历程
新疆解放前,绝大多数青少年得不到入学的机会,学龄儿童入学率只有19.8%,少数民族全部在校生仅占少数民族总人口的5%,少数民族教育处于十分薄弱落后的状况。解放后,在党的民族政策的光辉照耀下,在党和政府的正确领导下,我区加紧对少数民族教育教学进行改革,逐步在少数民族学校推行“双语”教学,“双语”教学经历了三个不同的发展阶段:
(1)“双语”教学体系建立的初级阶段(1950~1976)。自治区尝试在民族中小学校加授汉语,举办“双语”授课实验班,在各高等院校和中等学校举办预科教育,自治区的“双语”教学体系初步形成。(2)“双语”教学稳步发展阶段(1977―20xx)。自治区党委1984年印发巴岱同志《对加强民族学校汉语教学的建议》,就少数民族学校加强“双语”教学、实现“民汉兼通”培养目标提出要求,提出少数民族中小学的汉语教学从小学三年级一直坚持到高中毕业。1992年自治区开始在较广的范围内进行 “双语”教学实验,其中少数民族中学以理科为主的部分课程使用汉语授课的实验规模最大。
同时,为促进少数民族教师队伍建设,自治区在加大“双语”师资培训工作力度的同时,改革师范教育教学,提高师范毕业生的汉语水平;制定“汉语教师师资班”招生计划,定向培养各地所需的中小学汉语教师;全面推行中国汉语水平考试。在各项措施的引领下,“双语”教学稳步发展。(3)“双语”教学快速推进阶段(20xx年―至今)。20xx年自治区党委、人民政府印发《关于大力推进“双语”教学工作的决定》,20xx年自治区印发《关于加强少数民族学前“双语”教育的意见》。20xx年底自治区召开中小学“双语”教学工作会议。“双语”教学“从小抓起、从教师抓起”的指导思想得到确立,“双语”教学工作进入快速推进阶段。
应该多开办有关双语教学的理论研讨会,并注意扩大它的范围,这对提高我们的理论水平,交流经验、总结教训,使我们的双语教学工作沿着正确的轨道健康地发展大有好处。我们所从事的双语教学工作不单单是汉语教学工作,我们要培养的人才也不是只懂汉语的人才。我们要培养出既懂本族语、又懂汉语的民汉兼通的双语人才。所以,在进行这项工作时,千万不能偏废任何一方。当然,我们把主要的精力放在提高汉语水平上是对的,但绝不能因此而忽略民族语的教学。语言是文化的载体,一种语言消失了,就等于失去了一种文化。失去一种语言比较容易,但要恢复它却是十分艰难的事情。所以笔者认为,只有坚持走民汉兼通的路,体现双语教学中的“双”,才是我们所真正要达到的目标。只有体现出双语教学中的“双”,新疆的双语教学才会沿着正确的道路前进。

本人参加贵州省苗(东部方言)汉双语师资培训而感到荣兴。首先,感谢贵州省民族委员会、贵州省教育厅和松桃苗族自治县教育局给我参加培训的机会,也感谢贵州民族学院提供培训场所。在这次培训活动中,我深切的体会到一下几点:
一、苗语的重要性
1、在松桃苗族自治县教育局报到会上,吴永刚局长在报告中,再三嘱咐我们在培训中要认真学习,并强调说,“你们肩负苗族人民的语言文化发展的重担,松桃的发展就看你们了!”
2、在培训课堂中,田茂能股长随堂听课,与学员们寸步不离。此外,还有龙智先苗族文化专家、滕继成苗文化专家和龙秀海文化专家们认真、详细地给我们授课。
3、在培训期间,民族的领导和老师经常随课跟踪,形影不离。
二、知识的讲解
1、龙智先专家在授课的过程中,给我们讲述了苗族(东部方言)。语法的性质语特点。苗族的语汇和苗族文字的组成部分,她告诉我们苗族语言文字由声母(deb shob),韵母(neb shob)和声调(shob xinb)组成。
2、滕继成专家又给我们讲述了怎样学好苗族语文,怎样对待苗文中的问题和认识及欣赏苗歌,并要求我们应怎样做好苗族语文工作,在授课中还告诉我们怎样把汉文译成苗文的方法和苗文的表达方法比汉文的表达方法要具体、准确。
3、龙秀海专家也给我们讲述了松桃苗族人民的历史,使我们知道了我们的前辈曾住在中下游和黄河中下游,与汉人发生了激烈战争,逼迫祖先们从长江中下游和黄河中下游迁往湘西和黔东部分地带。还讲述了苗族文化的历史,并且让我们知道,苗人的建筑、刺绣、歌舞等艺术文化,早在1前出现,比汉人早5000余年。
三、实用性
滕继成专家告诉我们,苗族语言文字不仅在教育教学中有助于对苗族子弟的教育,还可以帮助我们对苗族的诗歌、药物、药方和治疗方法的记载。
四、不足点
1、资金投入不足,根据目前情况来看,几年来国家对苗族语言文化的教学欠缺,因此,苗族语言文字的教学而感到消极。
2、教材编写的过程中出现不少的不足,例如,专家对我们讲解过程中,告诉我们“x an b”的“anb”要读成“ianb”而不是“anb”,但在教材中没有说明,所以我个人认为,但不知是否合适,就是“i、p、x”与带有“a”字的韵母(neb、shob)相拼时,一定要先读出“i”调音。顺口溜是:“j、p、x“与带有“a”字的韵母相拼时,“i”字省略不写落记心。
3、师资人员不足。80年代,我县仅仅只有十几位教师,到现在才培训我们100余人。
总之,通过十几天的苗语培训,深深地让我感到我们的祖先有着无限的光辉业绩,我一定要把它发扬光大,世世代代流传下去。并把所学到的知识在松桃苗乡开花结果!

一、指导思想
在强化汉语教学、大力营造汉语学习氛围的基础上,继续从小学学前班开始,在若干门具备条件的非汉语学科中,用汉语作为教学语言(由少到多,由浅至深)进行尝试,为接受双语教育的学生在非语言学科的学习中提供尽可能多的与汉语接触的机会和时间,帮助学生尽可能以汉语为工具进行思考与交流,使用汉语对学科知识进行学习,培养学生学习汉语的`兴趣,拓展学生学习汉语的范围,增加词汇的输入量,提供学生应用汉语的阵地,强化语言的交际功能,并创设条件让学有余力的学生积极参加汉语课外活动,以逐步提高学生的汉语水平。

一、创设浓厚的汉语学习氛围:
1.创设多姿的双语校园文化。
学校能创设汉语多功能大厅,为学生提供银行、医院、商店、餐厅,独特的生活模拟场景为孩子们提供了口语交际的场所,孩子们边学边玩,让课堂学习贴近生活,让生活进入课堂。目前学校没有这样的条件。希望双语组的老师(特别是低年级的)能充分利用一节汉语实践课,创设更多的汉语情境,每时每刻都在渗透汉语教学,让学生用汉语报名,主持报幕,表演节目;开设汉语小超市,设立汉语节目天天演小舞台,利用这些活动为学生创设机会搭建舞台,激发孩子学汉语、用汉语的兴趣。各班教室都将开辟“汉语角”,引导学生用所学到的汉语进行简单地对话与交流,师生同用汉语,加强双语教学人文环境的建设。
2.录制多彩的双语电视节目。
二、编写内容丰富的校本教材
为了激发学生学习兴趣,培养语言运用能力,并适度地扩大词汇量,积累语言学习经验,汉语课上我们教授人教版出版的汉语教材,本学期希望双语组能在上学期编制教材的基础上,自编了图文并茂的双语班校本教材,如内容可以有生活化的情景对话;有符合学生年龄特点的说唱、歌曲;有激发学生兴趣的童谣,绕口令;有提高学生综合运用语言能力的汉语童话剧等。希望校本教材能分低中高学生的年龄特点安排,丰富教学内容,为课堂带来了新的生机。
三、汉语与其它学科的整合。
我校双语教学已体现在数学、汉语、信息技术等这些课程中用汉语组织教学,希望本学年能延伸到其他学科中去。在课堂教学中我们用汉语教学,再现学生所学过的单词句型,提高学生听说能力,并逐步达到利用汉语思维的能力。当然在学科教学中我们强调教学重难点、数学课上的某些算理的教学是可以用母语的,课堂用语和练习尽量用汉语。注重学科间的融合渗透,时时处处培养孩子们的听说能力。因此我们本学期要加强对双语组的校本教研活动。
1.一帮一结对子活动:就近组合,学习汉语。学科老师主动和汉语老师结对子,进行同课题的研究活动,要求每人每月上双语课一次,并且要定好时间,定好地点,加强各组合之间的交流。学年结束,每个双语组的成员每组结对老师要积累一本双语实验资料集,包括教案、教学心得、双语作业、学生作品等。
2.教师自学:双语教师平时加强汉语学习,提高听、说能力,使自己在短时间内胜任此项工作。
3.考级活动:促进教师汉语口语交际及汉语综合运用的能力,参加等级考试,提高学校教师的汉语水平。
4.外出培训:尽力提供机会让双语教师参加高一级层次的汉语能力培训。
四、继续借助外教培养孩子们纯正的语言语调和语感。
平时我们注意与外教交流沟通好,帮助其备和学生进行大量会话练习并教给孩子们一些课外知识如:对话、游戏和歌曲,让学生学习外语的语音语调和良好的语感。
汉语很重要,双语更重要。汉语是打开国门的窗口,双语是通向世界的桥梁。通过一年的努力工作把学校的双语教学提到新的一个台阶为进行模式2的双语教学而努力工作。

一、“双语”培训工作的目的和意义

三、“双语”培训学习安排
1、以日常自学和集中学习相结合的方式进行。集中学习的时间为每周五下午,时间为1小时。
2、不定期对学习内容进行抽查测试,并尽可能为双语学习提供良好的环境和条件。
四、“双语”培训主要措施及步骤
1、通过演讲比赛、讲故事、讲幽默、说笑话、播放科技片等方式激发教师学习的双语积极性和热情。
2、把每日一句话、每周一课,作为一项双语学习制度,继续坚持下去,并引导教师将所学语言用到实际生活、工作之中去,为提高语言表达能力,巩固所学语言知识创造有利条件。
3、不定期对学习情况进行测试,掌握教学双语的实际效果,发现问题,及时采取措施予以解决。
4、及时总结经验,发挥优点,纠正错误。组织广大师生相互进行沟通,交流经验,使他们学会取他人之长,补自己只短,提高双语表达能力。

以邓小平理论和“三个代表”重要思想为指导,深入贯彻落实科学发展观,以汉语教学为突破口,以提高少数民族教育质量,提升少数民族素质,培养“民汉兼通”的少数民族人才为目标,全面实施“双语”教学,努力开创“双语”教学工作的新局面。

四、具体措施:
(一)进一步加强对“双语”教学的组织领导
以提高“双语”教学质量为宗旨,坚持实事求是、稳步推进的工作原则,正确把握“双语”教学的实质,进一步加强管理,转变观念,认真开展多种形式的“双语”教学活动,扎实有效的推进学校“双语”教学工作持续健康发展。
1、学校加强对“双语”教学工作的组织领导,成立由书记马丽莉书记任组长的“双语”教学工作领导小组。
2、遵循双语教学的客观规律,年初制定的双语教学目标规划,实施方案,教学计划和双语教学工作管理办法,是双语教学工作科学、规范、有序。
(二)、加强双语教师队伍建设,提高双语教育教学水平。
提高双语教学水平,教师是关键,我校将采取多渠道加大双语教师的培训力度。
1、进一步加大双语教师培训力度。选派年富力强的中青年民语骨干教师参加国家、自治区、自治州、市级的培训。
2、加大民语教师岗位培训和自学力度,以我校校本教研为依托,加强对双语教师进行业务培训,强化基本功训练,不断提高双语教师汉语水品和业务能力
3、建立并形成双语教学的长效机制,对优秀的双语教师在年度考核,评先选优等方面给予倾斜,充分调动双语教师的工作积极性。
(三)、创设良好的双语学习氛围,拓展少数民族学生学习汉语的环境。
加强双语教学氛围的营造,通过精心设计校园环境,让每一面墙,每一件物,每一句口号,每一个标记,从语言上,从思想品德上给学生以无声的熏陶。要让学生一走进校门,就感到换了一个语言环境。
(四)、加强对双语教学工作的研究
1、坚持不懈的抓好双语常规教学管理,提高课堂教学质量,不断完善双语教师的业务管理制度,建立健全有效的双语教学管理办法,从教师备课、上课、课后辅导学生等方面严格规范,定期召开双语教学研讨会,进行教育教学分析,认真总结经验,开展公开课、研究课、研讨课、汉语专题辅导讲座等活动,不断提高教师教育教学能力和专业水平。
2、学校领导带头学习和掌握汉语,提高汉语交流能力,在开会、安排布置工作、组织教职工学习或与教职工谈话时使用汉语,工作报告、理论学习和业务学习新的笔记使用汉语书写,为教师和青少年学生树立榜样。
3、强化汉语教学,推进双语进程。
高质量的汉语教学是双语教育的前提,使汉语教学和双语教学相辅相成,相互渗透,形成良性互动。我们首先要求教师切切实实的抓好汉语教学,教学中辅助以形体语言、班班通、实物、图片等手段,尽可能用汉语解释,力求为学生创设一个全汉语的学习氛围,不断训练、培养学生良好的学习氛围,不断训练、培养学生良好的语感,培养学生用汉语进行思维的能力和综合学习能力,为培养合格的双语人才打好扎实的基础。

我从小在**长大,生活在单一的汉族地区,对新疆少数民族了解不多,对维吾尔语更是没有一点概念和基础,很是陌生。还记得培训班上第一节课时,**老师为我们讲解《维吾尔语日常会话500句》,生涩的发音、别扭的书写令我有点不知所措。正因为
如此,我只有不断的加倍努力学习,当别人休息时,我把每天老师的授课内容温习几遍,再预习下一课内容;每天上课时,我会提前到课堂,复习功课。我知道这次学习很难得,所以全身心地投入到学习中。在维吾尔语的知识海洋里,不断充实自己,陶冶自己。在刚学习过程中,遇有不懂的就问同学,不认识的字母就和同学一起研究,每天都熟读课文,背诵单词,背诵句子,课堂上认真听老师的发音,做好笔记,仔细做题,踊跃用维吾尔语回答老师提出的问题,为了做到准确发音我专门买了录音笔录取老师在课堂上的发音,私下来反复跟读直到完全掌握为至。课间休息时,就向老师请问自己不懂的地方,下课后认真做作业,记单词,背句型。在平常的生活中,尽量将所学的维语应用其中,使我的维吾尔语在听、说、写能力上有了很大的提高。
经过五个月的学习,我认为学习好维吾尔语,就要从语音、词汇、语法三个方面着手,在语音方面,我能准确的读出维吾尔32个字母的发音,找到每个字母的发音部位与方法,与汉语的字母可以对应记忆,发好维吾尔语的颤音。在词汇方面,词汇就好比一座高楼中的一砖一瓦,我们在学习及其日常生活过程中,要不断地积累,不断地学习,只有词汇丰富了,才能连词成句。因此,我认真做到多读,多写,多记,加强记忆。在语法方面,对于任何一个语言来说,语法是最难学的,维吾尔语也如此。在语法学习上,首先我掌握了基本的语法规则,然后通过多读、多背诵维吾尔语文章,熟能生巧记住语法。如果死记硬背语法规则,可能运用时就会一团糟。
学习一门语言是一个相当艰辛的过程,期间的点点滴滴对我人生都是一种锤炼。学习期间,***、***和***三位老师认真而诙谐的讲解,总是能让我很快的就能进入学习状态,至今依然记忆犹新。

如此,我只有不断的加倍努力学习,当别人休息时,我把每天老师的授课内容温习几遍,再预习下一课内容;每天上课时,我会提前到课堂,复习功课。我知道这次学习很难得,所以全身心地投入到学习中。在维吾尔语的知识海洋里,不断充实自己,陶冶自己。在刚学习过程中,遇有不懂的就问同学,不认识的字母就和同学一起研究,每天都熟读课文,背诵单词,背诵句子,课堂上认真听老师的发音,做好笔记,仔细做题,踊跃用维吾尔语回答老师提出的问题,为了做到准确发音我专门买了录音笔录取老师在课堂上的发音,私下来反复跟读直到完全掌握为至。课间休息时,就向老师请问自己不懂的地方,下课后认真做作业,记单词,背句型。在平常的生活中,尽量将所学的维语应用其中,使我的维吾尔语在听、说、写能力上有了很大的提高。
经过五个月的学习,我认为学习好维吾尔语,就要从语音、词汇、语法三个方面着手,在语音方面,我能准确的读出维吾尔32个字母的发音,找到每个字母的发音部位与方法,与汉语的字母可以对应记忆,发好维吾尔语的颤音。在词汇方面,词汇就好比一座高楼中的一砖一瓦,我们在学习及其日常生活过程中,要不断地积累,不断地学习,只有词汇丰富了,才能连词成句。因此,我认真做到多读,多写,多记,加强记忆。在语法方面,对于任何一个语言来说,语法是最难学的,维吾尔语也如此。在语法学习上,首先我掌握了基本的语法规则,然后通过多读、多背诵维吾尔语文章,熟能生巧记住语法。如果死记硬背语法规则,可能运用时就会一团糟。
学习一门语言是一个相当艰辛的过程,期间的点点滴滴对我人生都是一种锤炼。学习期间,***、***和***三位老师认真而诙谐的讲解,总是能让我很快的就能进入学习状态,至今依然记忆犹新。
我发现学习好维吾尔语,还要了解维吾尔文化、风俗习惯,因为一个民族的语言与其文化是分不开的,只有加强对维吾尔民族的了解,尊重其风俗习惯,才能更好的掌握我所学习的维吾尔语,才能对这个民族有深入的认识。学习维吾尔语,要靠平时的积累,平时的勤奋,多读,多写,多记,多与维吾尔族朋友交流。
学院坚持双语教育与兵团精神教育结合在一起,组织培训班28名同学参观了“军垦第一连”,并亲自实践了人力犁地、打土块等体力劳动,深刻感受到兵团发展到今天确实不易。

It is simple enough to say that since books have classes — fiction, biography, poetry — we should separate them and take from each what it is right that each should give us.

Yet few people ask from books what books can give us. Most commonly we come to books with blurred and divided minds, asking of fiction that it shall be true, of poetry that it shall be false, of biography that it shall be flattering, of history that it shall enforce our own prejudices. If we could banish all such preconceptions when we read, that would be an admirable beginning.

Pride made their love difficult to blossom well because true love does require the forgoing of pride (which gives rise to prejudice), which is a strong sense of self-love versus selfless love for another. However, behind fierce pride is often vulnerability, that one is too proud to admit.

It’s a common belief that ‘opposites attract’, but this didn’t seem so in the case of Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy, for both mirrored each other’s pride and prejudice. Opposites can attract when each party sees qualities missing in oneself complemented by another. Being together thus becomes fulfilling, as if completing each other as halves. Is it for better or worse if a couple are opposites in character? The up side is that if each partner is mindful, both can learn to see and nurture the missing qualities in themselves. The down side is that if each is unmindful, both might take each other’s qualities for granted and not acquire them personally.
On the flip side, is it better or worse that ’similars attract’, that each mirrors the other? The up side is that if each partner is mindful, both can learn to see themselves more clearly, as reflected in the other, and thus realise what positive qualities need to be strengthened, and which negative ones need to be weakened. The down side is that if each is unmindful, they might frustrate each other to no end, or the loving of the other might become an essentially narcissistic love, an extension of self-love – since the other resembles oneself so much. Yes, it all pivots on mindfulness. Yet, if all are perfectly mindful, there would be no need to be with another to better oneself. Come to think of it, both Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth had similarities AND differences, for no two people are exactly the same or entirely different.
Elizabeth: Are you to proud Mr. Darcy? And would you consider pride a fault or a virtue?

In case there is some confusion, pride is different from dignity. Unless we are talking about ‘taking healthy pride’ in something worthy, pride is largely useless and even harmful – because it punishes oneself and others through the creation and sustenance of grudges. Jane Austen originally called her novel ‘First Impressions’. Some say ‘first impressions last’. In the negative sense, they only last only as long as we are prejudiced, when we measure others pridefully with our imperfect momentary perceptions, and refuse to change our opinions when the truth presents otherwise. Thankfully, Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth realise this before the end of the story, thus ending their pride and prejudice. That’s some good ’sense and sensibility’!

倾听优美的英文儿歌、民歌,感受其美妙,区分其与中文的差异。在教学活动中,我发觉让小朋友聆听英国一些原版的歌曲、律诗、韵文,可以让小朋友在最原始的模仿状态下得到纯正的“发音储存”。
不急于说,听准确后再慢慢模仿
幼儿学习语言,一个很重要的环节是重复。我曾经播放《狮子王》录音磁带的片断约五分钟给中班小朋友听全英文磁带,听过遍后,小朋友已经可以对每句话的后面几个字进行模仿期间我并未做过中文解释。第二天我又播放同一段录音给他们听,他们可以在“紧急情况”来临之前便已经发出“警报”;第三天,我再一次播放同一段录音时,小朋友感觉就像是在听中文故事一样,能够自然地蹦出几个“关键”词。
反复听,强化印象 幼儿的记忆瞬间性较强,反复强化后,可以使瞬间的印象很长久地刻在记忆深处。这也是为什么小时候背颂的古诗成年后也不会忘记的原因。每次上课时,需要把前面学过的内容听一遍,温故而知新。

The poor are very wonderful people. One evening we went out and we picked up four people from the street. And one of them was in a most terrible condition,and I told the sisters: You take care of the other three. I take care of this one who looked worse. So I did for her all that my love can do. I put her in bed, and there was such a beautiful smile on her face. She took hold of my hand as she said just the words “thank you” and she died. I could not help but examine my conscience[良心]before her and I asked what would I say if I was in her place. And my answer was very simple. I would have tried to draw a little attention to myself. I would have said I am hungry, that I am dying, I am cold, I am in pain, or something, but she gave me much more-she gave me her grateful love. And she died with a smile on her face. As did that man whom we picked up from the drain[阴沟、下水道], half eaten with worms, and we brought him to the home. “I have lived like an animal in the street, but I am going to die like an angel, loved and cared for.” And it was so wonderful to see the greatness of that man who could speak like that, who could die like that without blaming anybody, without cursing anybody, without comparing anything. Like an angel-this is the greatness of our people. And that is why we believe what Jesus had said: I was hungry, I was naked, I was homeless, I was unwanted, unloved, uncared for, and you did it to me.

World of Smiles
About ten years ago when I was an undergraduate in college, I was working as an intern at my University's Museum of Natural History. One day while working at the cash register in the gift shop, I saw an elderly couple come in with a little girl in a wheelchair.
As I looked closer at this girl, I saw that she was kind of perched on her chair. I then realized she had no arms or legs, just a head, neck and torso. She was wearing a little white dress with red polka dots.
As the couple wheeled her up to me I was looking down at the register. I turned my head toward the girl and gave her a wink. As I took the money from her grandparents, I looked back at the girl, who was giving me the cutest, largest smile I have ever seen. All of a sudden her handicap was gone and all I saw was this beautiful girl, whose smile just melted me and almost instantly gave me a completely new sense of what life is all about. She took me from a poor, unhappy college student and brought me into her world; a world of smiles, love and warmth.
That was ten years ago. I'm a successful business person now and whenever I get down and think about the troubles of the world, I think about that little girl and the remarkable lesson about life that she taught me.

Many Americans are familiar with The Little Prince, a wonderful book by Antoine de Saint-Exupery. This is a whimsical and fabulous book and works as a children's story as well as a thought-provoking adult fable. Far fewer are aware of Saint-Exupery's other writings, novels and short stories.

Saint-Exupery was a fighter pilot who fought against the Nazis and was killed in action. Before World War II, he fought in the Spanish Civil War against the fascists. He wrote a fascinating story based on that experience entitled The Smile. It is this story which I'd like to share with you now. It isn't clear whether or not he meant this to be autobiographical or fiction. I choose to believe it to be the former.
