The annual Dragon Boat Festival is coming, and I am waiting for.

Dragon boat racing is the main custom of the Dragon Boat Festival. In ancient times, the people of the state of chu were not allowed to condescend to the river, and many people rowed to the rescue. They rushed to the lake and disappeared. The dragon boat is then on May 5 each year. Use the dragon boat to disperse the fish in the river, so as not to eat the body of qu yuan.

We are going to eat zongzi on the Dragon Boat Festival, which is a traditional custom of the Chinese people. Zongzi is officially designated as a food for the Dragon Boat Festival. At this time, the raw material except glutinous rice zongzi, add Chinese traditional medicine fructus alpiniae oxyphyllae, boiled dumplings “puzzle in the reed meters doping, chestnut, jujube, red bean, etc., variety. Zongzi is also used as a gift.

The famous ai, mugwort. Its stems and leaves contain volatile aromatic oils. It produces strange aromas, repellent flies, insect ants, purifying the air. Calamus is a perennial aquatic herb with long, narrow leaves that also contain volatile aromatic oils, a drug that refrezes the mind, kills bones and kills insects

These activities also reflect the fine traditions of the Chinese nation.

Spring  is coming quietly by waking up everything slightly. All the creatures come back  to life and start to grow. How wonderful the spring is! The rivers are running  happily. The swallows are flying back from the south and singing. Meanwhile,  some cute animals are busy with their new houses. And the sun shines brightly,  directly to our frozen hearts. Everything is kissed by gently breeze. Listen!  There are thousands of blossoms muttering with each other, giving off fragrance  in the air. What colorful and harmonious scenes!

Spring  is the beginning of the year which gives us energy and uncountbale chances. As  teenagers, we must take advantage of the significant opportunity to realize our  dreams. And we should keep it in mind that no pains,no gains. That is to say,  the more we do, the better we will be.Thomas Alva. Edison ever said, ”Our  greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is just to  try one more time.“Under no circumstances should we give up our goals. No matter  what happens, we are supposed to persist our dreams until the end of our life.  In addition, we should be optimistic. Do not erase all the progress you have  made due to one mistake.

As  the proverb put it, ”Good beginning is half done.“ Please let us cherish the  short spring, and make our dream come true.

We  have recently held a class meeting to discuss the pressure upon everyone of us  Senior Three students. At the meeting everyone expressed their own opinions on  how to get relieved from pressure.

Pressure  comes from all around: from the heavy load of learning, from the fierce  competition, from teachers, and from parents. Pressure may affect our studies if  there’s too much of it. However, if taken positively, a certain amount of  pressure may help push us ahead.

Whenever  I find there’s too much pressure, I choose to work out or listen to some light  music, which seems to be quite effective. There are many approaches to getting  oneself relieved when pressure accumulates. I strongly recommend that when you  feel much too stressed, you stop whatever you are doing, get out into the open,  take a deep breath, and start thinking of something positive.

I  am very disappointed not to be able to go to see a film with my friends, to play  my favorite musical instrument, or to watch TV with my family in the evening. I  have to sit at desk and do my homework, which can not be finished until  midnight, I'm tired of doing much homework, get bored at taking so many exams,  and lose interest in studying.

Teachers,  please get rid of homework and examinations. Examinations are nothing but  anxiety-makers. Homework is nothing but interest-killers.

Teachers,  we can learn more outside the classroom. Classroom gives us limited kinds of  information. We can only learn some dead knowledge from the books.Teachers,  please set us free, and let us learn more outside the classroom

from  the environment, from TV, from private study or from our friends.

My  dear teachers, can you hear me? Please lighten the burden on students.

We  are now living in a common home. That is the earth. She provides us with enough  food, enough water and enough living room. So we must do everything to protect  her. There are lots of big or small, red or green, beautiful gardens around us  .But there are still some other lands bare of grasses or trees on the earth.

Some  people may ask why not led all lands covered with trees, flowers and grasses?  Why not prevent the lands from being desert? Why not prevent the air from being  polluted? And why not prevent the earth from being poisoned? Yes! Our  environment is being polluted faster than nature and man’s efforts can prevent.  Time is bring us more people, and more people will bring us more industry. So  many trees will be cut down, and more large cities will be set up. Lots of waste  material, in return, is produced and harms the environment. So some experts  declare that the balance of nature is being destroyed. The survival of man is in  danger.

We  feel really sad about it. What can we do to solve this problem? We must forbid  cutting down trees and forbid killing animals and pouring waste water into  rivers and so on. We’ll never destroy the balance of nature. Let’s get along  well with all animals. Let the trees, flowers and grasses come back to our home.  Because we have only one home --- the earth.

Especially in vacations, phenomena of uncivilized behavior in parks or museums everywhere. Even in foreign countries, our Chinese citizens still do naturally, it seriously affected our country's image. Of course, it has caused bad loss in ancient buildings and antiquities and our environments. So it's urgent to advocate to have a cultural tourism.

Cell Phone and Internet Dangers

Cell phones and the internet have improved our lives in many ways. However, along with improvement, they have also brought a number of worrying problems that need to be addressed.

Many car accidents are caused by cellphones. A cellphone brings us much convenience, but some drivers get on the internet while driving. These insensitive drivers are a danger to us all.

Many of the dangers of the internet are well known. Children who visit websites without their parents’ permission sometimes talk to people who they don’t know and put themselves in great danger. People with blogs sometimes post embarrassing photos on their websites without permission. There are also people who use the internet to get personal information that we don’t want them to have.

Dear Wang Qiang, How are you doing recently? I,m writing to give you some suggestions on study and life. For Senior 3 students, time is precious. It is high time we took effective measures to live our life to the fullest.First of all: I highly propose we make the most of the time in class: following our teachers. Besides: we tend to get anxious with time going by. Take it easy. It's OK. More importantly, just as an old saying goes “Health is Wealth”. That's why we have to spend some time

exercising regularly. Tired as we feel: we are lucky and happy with so many teachers, friends, and our parents standing behind us. We may ask them for help whenever we need it.

Do you like my advice? I hope we will graduate from high school without regrets and be admitted to our ideal universities. Wish you success.

CHICAGO(Reuters)-Smoking not only can wrinkle(皱纹)the face and turn it yellow―it can do the same to the whole body, researchers reported on Monday.

The study, published in the Archives of Dermatology, shows that smoking affects the skin all over the body-even skin protected from the sun.

“We examined non-facial skin that was protected from the sun,and found that the total number of packs,of cigarette smoked per day and the total years a person has smoked were linked with the amount of skin damage a person experienced,”Dr.Yolanda, who led the study, said in a statement.

“In participants older than 65 years, smokers had significantly more fine wrinkling than nonsmokers.Similar fmdings were seen in participants aged 45 to 65 years.” Yolanda’s team added in their report.

The researchers tested 82 people, smokers and nonsmokers, taking pictures of the inner right arms. They ranged,in age from 22 to 91 and half were smokers. In dependent judges decided how wrinkled each person’s skin was.

When skin is exposed to sunlight, especially the face,it becomes coarse(粗糙的).Wrinkled and discolored with a pale yellow tint,Yolanda's team wrote.

Several previous studies have found that cigarette smoking led to premature(过早的)skin aging asmeasured by facial wrinkles, the study said, but little has been done to measure the aging of skin not exposed to light.

The report did not discuss die mechanism involved but previous research has found that cigarette smoke, among other things, causes blood vessels(血管)beneath the skin to constrict(紧缩),reducing blood supply to the skin.

The day my husband fell to his death,it started to snow, just like any November day.His body, when I found it,was lightly covered with snow.It snowed almost every day for the next four months, while I sat on the couch and watched it pile up.One morning,I shuffled downstairs and was surprised to see a snow remover clearing my driveway and the bent back of a woman shoveling(铲)my walk.I dropped to my knees, crawled through the living room. And back up stairs so those good people would not see me.I was embarrassed. My first thought was,how would I ever repay them? I didn’t have the strength to brush my hair let alone shovel someone’s walk.

Before John’s death,I took pride in the fact that I rarely asked for help or favors,I defined myself by my competence and independence. So who was I if I was no longer capable and busy? How could I respect myself if all I did was sit on the couch every day and watch the snowfall?

Learning how to receive the love and support that came my way wasn't easy.Friends cooked forme and l cried because I couldn't even help them set the table.“I'm not usually this lazy,”I wept. Finally,my friend Kathy sat down with me and said,”Mary, cooking for you is not a burden. I love you and I want to do it.It makes me feel good to be able to do something for you.”

Over and over,I heard similar emotions from the people who supported me during those dark days. One very wise man told me,“You are not doing nothing.Being fully open to your sorrow may be the hardest work you will everdo.”

I am not the person I once was,but in many ways I have changed for the better. My heart is now filled with thanks for people around me.I have been surprised to learn that there is incredible freedom that comes from facing one’s worst fear and walking away whole.I believe there is strength, for sure,in accepting a dark period of our life.

Right in front of the Minneapolis Central Library,a row of green bikes sits parked in a special stand. Each bike is designed with the logo“Nice Ride”―the name of the city’s bike-share program.

Nice Ride bikes are a lot like the library books that people come here to borrow. To rent a bike, you simply use your membership card at a Nice Ride bike station.Members can rent one of 1,200 bikes from 138 stations throughout Minnesota's largest city.People use the Nice Ride bikes to go to work,to go out on business,or just to enjoy the city’s many bike paths.

Today just as technology changed the face of industry, farms have undergone an

“agricultural revolution”.0n the farm of today, machines provide almost all the power.

One of the most important benefits will be the farm computer.A few forward—looking farmers are already using computers to help them run their farms more efficiently. The computers help them keep more accurate records so they can make better decisions on what crops to plant, how much livestock to buy, when to sell their products, and how much profit they can expect. Many computer companies bave been developing special computer programs just for farmers in the future, farmers will be able to purchase computer programs made to their needs.Because of the growing importance of computers on the farm, students at agicultural colleges are required to take computer classes in addition to their normal agricultural

barn, then connect them to the milking machines, watch the machines, and disconnect them when they are finished. In the future, this will be done by robots. In addition.when the milking is completed, the robots will automatically check to make sure that the milk is pure. The complete modernization of the farm is far in the future, but engineers expect that some robots will be used before long.

Every year more people recognize that it is wrong to kill wildlife for “sport.” Progress in this direction is slow hecause shouting is not a sport for watching, and only those few who take part realize the cruelty and destruction.

The number of gunners. However, grows rapidly.Children too young to develop proper judgments through independent thought are led a long way away by their gunning parents. They are subjected to advertisements of gun producers who describe shooting as good for their health and gun-carrying as a way of putting redder blood in the veins (血管).They are persuaded by gunner magazines with stories honoring the chase and the kill.In school they view motion pictures which are supposedly meant to teach them how to deal with arms safely but which are actually designed to stimulate a desire to own a gun.Wildlife is disappearing because of shooting and because of the loss of wild—land habitat.Habitat loss will continue with our increasing population, but can we slow the loss of wildlife caused by shooting? There doesn't seem to be any chance if the serious condition of our birds is not improved.

Wildlife belongs to everyone and not to the gunners alone.Although most people do not shoot, they seem to forgive shooting for sport because they know little or nothing about it.

The only answer, then, is to bring the truth about sport shooting to the great majority of people.

Now, it is time to realize that animals have the same right to life as we do and that there is nothing fair or right about a person with a gun shooting the harmless and beautiful creatures. The gunners like to describe what they do as character-building, but we know that to wound an animal and watch it go through the agony of dying can make nobody happy. If,as they would have you believe,gun-carrying and killing improve human—character, then perhaps we should encourage war.

49.It can be inferred from the text that the author seems to .

A.blame the majority of people

B.worry about the existence of wildlife

C.beinfavet of war

D.be in support of character-building

50.Which of the following words can best describe the author’s attitude towards gun—carry—ing?

Canadian experts have found that so—called self-help books may actually do more harm than good to people who really need help.Researchers say that individuals with low respect felt much worse after repeating positive statements about themselves.

In their study, psychologists Joanne Wood and John lee sought to determine how positive thinking affected people with different levels of self—confidence. They questioned dozens of people both male and female, analyzed their self-worth and optimism by means of the standard psychological methods and then asked them to write down their thoughts and feelings. The scoring system ranged from 0 to 35.

During the experiment, the researchers asked a total of 68 participants to repeat the self—help book phrase.”I am a lovable person.”After that they measured the participants’moods and their feelings about themselves. The results revealed that the participants in the low self—respect group who repeated the mantra, were feeling much worse afterwards, when comparod to other participants in low self-respect group who did not repeat the phrase. Those with low self-respect who repeated the phrase scored ao average of 10 points.Their counterparts with equally low self—respect who were not asked to repeat the statement, were able to score a little higher average of l7 points.

However, individuals with high self—respect reported feeling better after repeating the positive self-statement---but only slightly. They scored an average of 31 points, compared with an average of 25 for those with equally high self-respect who did not repeat the phrase.

Professor Wood urged those who promote self-help books, magazinesl and television shows to stop telling people that simply repeating a positive mantra could change one's life. First, people start following this idea and feel like they are not alone. They are told that all they have to do is just to read that book and then to repeat these positive statements in a hope that things will be better, and when it does not work for them and they realize that nothing gets better, then it is really frustration to people.

Americans usually consider themselves a friendly people. Their friendships, however, tend to be shorter and more casual than friendships among people from other cultures. It is not uncommon for Americans to have only one close friend during their lifetime, and consider other “friends”to be iust social acquaintances. This attitude probably has something to do with American mobility and the fact that Americans do not like to be dependent on other people. They tend to“compartmentalize”friendships, having “friends at wllrk”, “fritrods on

the softball team”, “family friends”,etc.

Because the United States is a highly active society, full of movement and change.

people always seem to be on the go.In this highly changed atmosphere,Americans can sometimes seem brusque or impatient. They want to get to know you as quickly as possible and then move on to something else.Sometimes, early on,they will ask you questions that you may feel are very personal. No insult is intended;the questions usually grow out of their genuine interest or curiosity, and their impatience to get to the heart of the matter. And the same goes for you.If you do not understand certain American behavior or you want to know more about them.do not hesitate to ask them questions.Americans are usually eager to explain all about their country or anything “American”in which you may be interested. So much so in fact that you may become tired of listening. It doesn't matter, because Americans

tend to be uncomfortable with silence during a conversation.Tbey would rather talk about the weather of the latest sports scores, for example, than deal with silence.

0n the other hand, don’t expect Americans to be knowledgeable about international geography or world affairs, unless those subjects directly involve the United States.Because the Unitcd States is not surrounded by many other nations, some Americans tend to ignore the rest of the world.

56.What is the main idea of the first paragraph?( no more than l5 words)

57.The underlined phrase “on the go”means .(no more than 5 words)

58.What would Americans prefer to talk about in order to carry on a comfortable conversation? (no more than l0 words)

59. According to the customs mentioned in the passage, what would you do if you want to know something about America?(no more than l0 words)

60. Why don’t Americans know much about international geography or world affairs?

(no more than 10 words)
